Four club members were joined by Dartmouth Golf & Country Club professional, Rob Glazier, to compete in a unique triathlon based around the resort’s two golf courses.

First up was a five mile cycle around the buggy path, followed by a bracing 200 metre swim across the lake on the Championship course’s third hole and finally a five mile run around the golf courses and – to top it all off – three holes putted out left-handed.

First to finish was club member and event organiser Mark Rendle, who said: “There were aching limbs afterwards but we all thoroughly enjoyed it and the money raised is for a great cause.

“I did suggest we do the swim in the resort’s indoor pool but the lake provided a more spectacular finale.”

The event raised £1,150 for the captain’s charity – Help for Heroes.

We stayed at Dartmouth for three nights, 10-13 June and I just wanted to say thankyou.

Everybody had a splendid time and the feedback I’ve had from everyone has been very positive, both re the golf courses and the accommodation.

From my point of view, having the thankless task of being organiser(!), I particularly appreciated how helpful all the staff I dealt with were – over and above just doing their job.

I suspect everyone will be keen to come back again next year, so if / when you’ve got any information on availability and costs, can you let me know?

Jamie Waugh, MD, with a group of children taking part in the local education initiative at Slapton in Start BayDartmouth Golf & Country Club has been operating a visitor payback scheme which donates 5p for every cup of tea and coffee sold at the club to a programme to fund a wide ranging local environmental programme.

A cheque for £640 was presented last week to Andy Pratt of the Field Studies Centre at Slapton by Jamie Waugh, Managing Director Dartmouth Golf and Country Club.  Jamie Waugh said, “We’re delighted to present this amount to support the excellent work that the Slapton Field Studies Centre and partners in this project are doing in helping local students appreciate the changing coast of Start Bay”.

Students will investigate Start Bay through fieldwork, using photographs and roleplay to understand the characteristics of Start Bay, as well as the processes and issues affecting it. They will investigate:

- What are the main land uses and features
- What processes are affecting it
- How human activity affect the coastline
- Who decides what happens to coastlines

The work is linked to the Geography National Curriculum and QCA Schemes of Work, as well as many broader cross-curricular links. Focus groups with children before and after the visit will enable an assessment of awareness before and after the visit.

The other partners in the programme are Start Bay Centre, Slapton Line Partnership, South Devon AONB, and Tally Ho Coaches (to provide transport).

Funding will provide free visits, including tuition, field equipment, education resources & transport.

Whilst we did take the opportunity of completing one of your satisfaction forms, I would like to make a couple of additional comments.
We have stayed many times at your hotel over the last 15 years and like the recent changes you have made to the bar and restaurant area. We found the service provided by Lee and the rest of the team to be excellent with nothing being to much trouble.
